About the Show

"Pure fun from start to finish" West End Best Friend

“Fresh, filthy and surprisingly uplifting” The Stage

POP OFF, MICHELANGELO! is a musical comedy about Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, best friends from Florence who become bitter rivals.

Even as kids, they both realise they’re gay. They know one thing for sure: in Renaissance Italy, that can be dangerous. And they’re probably going to hell, too! Hoping to earn God’s forgiveness, Mike and Leo enrol at art school and set out to become the greatest religious painters and sculptors of all time. Their success arouses the suspicions of the fanatical gay-hunter Savonarola, who goes as far as infiltrating the darkroom at the bar Zur Harten Nudel in an attempt to prove to the Pope that the Renaissance is causing homosexuality.

Can Michelangelo make it all the way to the Vatican while exhausted, sexually frustrated and still in the closet? And does Leonardo really have to show everyone his helicopter?
